has also appeared on many network television and cable programs

She practiced
veterinary care for 10 years before entering the field of
formulation. It was her desire to truly help animals and she
became aware of a distinct need for high quality nutrition. It
was this observation that led her to the understanding that she
could help far more animals in the long run by providing a food
that supplied 100% nutrition without all the harmful ingredients
normally used in the industry.
Dr. Jane has
put much science, knowledge, and thought into these
formulations. She has excellent reasons for her choices of
ingredients that are backed by the latest research in the
industry and her extensive knowledge of pet nutrition. This is
something else that most people do not understand about the pet
food industry. A lot of these companies decide that they want to
get a piece of the huge pet industry and make up a pet food
formulation. Their decisions on ingredients are not necessarily
based on the actual needs of the animals but rather on what
sounds good to the consumer, and they use the least expensive
ingredients they can.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS
We have a
special extruded process that allows one of the quickest cooking
times in the industry. We know that the longer a food is cooked,
the more nutrients are lost. We also know that cooking
temperatures are important for nutrient retention in the final
product. Ours is cooked at a low temperature and is cooked by
extrusion. There is no evidence in the industry as to which
process is better, extrusion or baking. There have never been
any controlled studies done on this issue for there are far too
many variables. The only one that has ever been done was on corn
only. Some companies will infer that a food is better because it
is twice baked but this is extremely misleading. Some companies
will claim that their cooking process allows for a greater
availability of nutrients. Any type of cooking of any grain will
gelatinize it, no exception.
Availability
of nutrients is affected by the ph of the food, oxygen present
during processing, the quality of the ingredients chosen, the
types of vitamins and minerals present in the ingredients, types
of protein sources used, etc.
SMALLER
DAILY RATIONS
When you
look at our daily feeding amount, our food compares directly in
price and a lot of times will be less expensive overall. Our
food contains higher levels of nutrients so less is required
daily to maintain the animal. So if you can feed our food in
smaller amounts and see the obvious improvement in the animals
that we have seen, i.e. improved energy levels, better coat
condition, better attitude, improved stool consistency, and
excellent growth in puppies and kittens, then I think that
pretty much tells you that the food is of a higher quality. The
only true way to judge a food is by the results it produces, and
by the company and its quality control program as evidenced by
the recent tragedy with Iams and Eukanuba and before that with
Diamond dog foods.
OUTSTANDING
QUALITY CONTROL
Quality of
ingredients is of the utmost importance. We start out with the
freshest ingredients possible, brought in the day of
manufacture, inspected for freshness and contaminants. Dr. Jane Bicks oversees the manufacturing process and refuses to hold any
ingredients over if one does not meet her standards. The batch
simply will not be made that day, all ingredients are removed
from the premises and new fresh ingredients are brought in again
for the next batch.
We also hold
over two bags of food from every batch. If we receive a
complaint on our food, Dr. Jane Bicks personally calls the
individual to get the full details because if there should be a
problem anywhere from production, or contamination after the
fact, she wants to catch it to ensure that the matter is
resolved immediately.
Dr. Jane is
available for any customer or distributor at any time for
assistance. We take quality control extremely seriously. We feel
it is our responsibility to the consumer to protect their
beloved pets.
NO STEROIDS
OR HORMONES
We use fresh
hormone and steroid free meat sources. Our supply of farm raised
catfish for the food undergoes testing for contaminants. They
are raised under controlled conditions to ensure that high
levels of mercury are not present in the flesh of the harvested
catfish. We use chicken meal because the water has been removed
and this concentrates the protein and allows us to produce a
food with a higher protein content per serving. Our source comes
from only high quality USDA range free chicken meat with no bone
or other by products. We do not use organic chicken at this
time. The supply for organic meats to the pet industry is very
limited. The supply of high quality organic prime meat in a
large enough amounts and consistent supply is just not available
to allow for the quantity we need to keep up with demand. What
is available to date is what is scraped off the equipment and
contains too many organic by-products and Dr. Jane will never
compromise her protein source.
Protein is
the building block of all the repairs and growth of the animals’
body. Dr. Jane would prefer to use organic meat sources, but not
at the expense of the animals nutritional requirements. We do
use organic fruits and vegetables in our products. They are
absolutely fresh. Dr. Jane will have it no other way.
NO CHEMICAL
PRESERVATIVES, ADDITIVES, BY PRODUCTS OR ARTIFICIAL COLORING
These are
used by other companies because they are much cheaper and allow
the manufacturer to make large batches to allow for larger
profit margins. These foods sit in warehouses for long periods
of time. These chemical preservatives are harmful to the animal.
Fed over long periods of time, they will compromise the ability
of the liver and other organs to function at optimum levels.
NO CORN OR
WHEAT
Corn and
wheat are not good sources of carbohydrates for dogs & cats. Not
only does it frequently promote allergic responses but it is
hard for them to digest. The mold that causes problems in
animals has a direct affinity for corn & wheat. This is another
reason why Dr. Jane will never use it in her food. She prefers
to use brown rice and whole potato because the above mentioned
toxic molds do not tend to grow on them and they are a far more
digestible carbohydrate for animals. Corn and grain are usually
added because it is a cheap ingredient and is used as part of
the total protein content which is of little or no value to the
animal.
When
formulating a food you must have some sort of carbohydrate to
form the kibble. Dr. Jane uses just enough potato & brown rice
to make a good kibble and no more. Take note of just how many
grains are in most foods. Dogs have been proven genetically to
be true carnivores. They cannot digest these grains adequately.
Cats being obligate carnivores have very few enzymes to digest
carbohydrates. All this does is provide a cheaper source of
filler and allow them to up the total protein content of the
product. This does not supply good available nutrition like they
would have you believe. The proteins in vegetables and grains
are not available to the animal. When you analyze a pet food
they will show up as part of the total protein content but the
animal cannot use this protein and they are actually protein
malnourished when on these types of foods.
There is a
huge difference between getting adequate protein and getting
optimum protein. This is one of the reasons why you see so many
coat condition problems and excessive shedding in animals. The
skin and hair use up a large portion of the protein ingested.
When the total protein content of the food is actually made up
of unavailable protein sources you will see these types of
conditions in the animal. The main reason that carbohydrates are
added to formulations is to be able to bring down the total fat
content of the finished product. So if you must add them, they
should come from sources that have a higher nutritional content
and are more digestible for the animal. There are many ongoing
studies of animals. In the past it was thought that the
ingredients used by many companies were proper for the animals.
New research is finding that many changes need to be made in the
industry.

and uses this information to provide the best formulations she
can in order to provide excellent nutrition and a safe product.
POWERFUL
ANTIOXIDANTS
Not only
does our food supply Vitamin E as a preservative but we also
have Activin™ grape seed extract. This is by far one of the best
cellular antioxidants on the market. There are at least 50
studies done on Activin™ and its role in prevention of cancer.
There is no
danger of toxic reactions with Activin™. It is made up solely of
the proanthocyanidins or antioxidant contained in the grape
seed.
CHELATED
MINERALS
Chelated
minerals are proven to be 40% more bio available. Minerals are
very important as without them the animals cannot utilize
vitamins properly and enzyme activity suffers.
AAFCO &
APHIS
We strictly
follow AAFCO regulations. Our food exceeds the requirements to
be 100% nutritious. Our food is certified by APHIS for the
European market. This means that we cannot mislead the consumer
with the labeling of our ingredients. To be able to be sold to
the European market a food must meet high standards of
excellence.
Because we
follow AAFCO so strictly we must use the words “potato product”
and “egg product” on our label. In reality I can assure you we
use whole egg and whole potato. If you run across any other
ingredients that you have a question about, please ask me for an
explanation.
USDA GRADE
INGREDIENTS and PRODUCED IN A USDA FACILITY
We
manufacture our food in a small third generation Mom & Pop
facility that is thoroughly inspected and maintained to meet the
criteria for human consumption. This facility is also APHIS
certified to sell pet foods in the European market.
ABSOLUTELY
FRESH
Our food is
never over 4-6 weeks old when shipped directly to the consumer.
Because Dr. Jane Bicks has been known to not produce on a given
day due to an inferior ingredient, we must keep a small supply
on hand to ensure on time delivery of product to customers.
MICRO
ENCAPUSALED PROBIOTICS
This is very
important as it guarantees the friendly bacterial cultures to be
alive in the food after manufacture. Our food supplies 5
different strains. It is not known in the industry exactly which
strain is the best or necessary. By providing 5 different
strains we are covering all the bases. Our food also supplies
the digestible fiber to feed the probiotics in the digestive
tract. The digestible fiber is in the form of beet pulp. It
comes from a small grey beet, not sugar beets. Not only does it
feed the bacteria but it provides a medium to produce a nicely
segmented stool.
Most other
foods supply no probiotics in their food. Probiotics and the
fiber to feed them are imperative for the overall health of the
animal. Proper immune function begins in the digestive tract. A
healthy digestive tract allows for greater absorption of
nutrients. It should always be present in a high quality food.

You may
wonder why we provide a supplement if our food is supplying 100%
nutrition. Well the answer is this. Dr. Jane has packed as much
nutrition into every kibble of Life’s Abundance as she possibly
can. However, there is no food out there that can possibly
supply all the extra nutritional needs. Different breeds need
different levels of certain vitamins, minerals, etc. Our
supplements allow for that added protection.
  
Dog & Cat
Supplements:
These provide the extra protection of phytonutrients and
antioxidants that would be destroyed in the cooking process if
added during manufacture. It is specially formulated, as are all
our products are, to work in concert with the food. This
supplement supports optimum liver function.
Skin & Coat:
Excellent for maintaining or improving skin condition. Contains
microencapsulated pharmaceutical grade fish oil. We have seen
amazing results with this product, even with allergies and any
type of chronic inflammation.
Agility:
A holistic blend of glucosamine, sea mussels (natural source of chondroitin sulphate), nutritional co-factors, and
boswelia
herb. This product is producing excellent results in animals
experiencing joint pain. We always suggest supplementation for
long backed breeds, large boned breeds, and animals subject to
hip dysplasia.
Soothing
Mist:
Spray on herbal and nutritional blend to aid in the healing of
irritated and inflamed areas of the skin. Very effective.
